These metals possess some of the highest melting points
and hardness levels known to industry.
Specialty Refractory & Reactive Metals
- Tungsten: With the highest melting point of all metals (3422°C), it is
used for high-heat vacuum furnace parts and radiation shielding.
- Tungsten Carbide: A metal-matrix composite (WC + Cobalt). It is the
"diamond" of the metal world, used for high-speed cutting tools, armor-piercing rounds,
and drill bits.
- Tantalum: The ultimate choice for chemical corrosion resistance. It is
virtually inert to all acids (except Hydrofluoric) at temperatures below 150°C, making
it critical for pharmaceutical reactors and surgical implants.
Advanced High-Temperature Superalloys (Nimonic / Haynes)
These alloys are the backbone of jet engines and
industrial power turbines, maintaining high tensile strength near their melting
points.
The Haynes Portfolio
- Haynes 188: A Cobalt-Nickel-Chromium-Tungsten alloy. It provides
excellent high-temperature strength and superior oxidation resistance up to 1095°C.
- Haynes 230: Known for having the best combination of strength, thermal
stability, and oxidation resistance of any wrought nickel-based alloy (2100°F service).
- Haynes 160: A high-Silicon alloy with exceptional resistance to
sulfidation and other high-temperature aggressive environments (waste incineration).
- Haynes 242: An age-hardenable alloy that derives its strength from
long-range ordering.
Nimonic Series (80A / 90 / 263)
- Nimonic 80A: The standard for aircraft engine exhaust valves.
- Nimonic 90: A Ni-Cr-Co alloy with high stress-rupture strength up to
950°C.
- Nimonic 263: An advanced sheet alloy with excellent fabricability and
weldability for combustor cans and afterburner components.
Wear-Resistant & Functional Alloys (Stellite / Nitinol)
Specialty Performance Alloys
- Stellite (e.g., Stellite 6 / 21): Cobalt-based alloys designed for
extreme wear resistance, galling resistance, and high-temperature performance.
- Nitinol (Nickel-Titanium): A Shape Memory Alloy that can be deformed at
low temperatures and return to its original shape when heated above its transformation
temperature.
