Austenitic Stainless Steel

Standard & Heat-Resistant Grades (304 / 309 / 310) – Exotic Metals LLP

These grades are defined by their chromium and nickel content, optimized for either general corrosion or high-heat environments.

Mechanical Properties (Annealed)

Property Grade 304 Grade 310
Tensile Strength ≥ 515 MPa ≥ 515 MPa
Yield Strength ≥ 205 MPa ≥ 205 MPa
Hardness (Max) 92 HRB 95 HRB

Molybdenum-Stabilized Grades (316 / 317 / 316Ti)

The addition of Molybdenum (2- 4%) provides essential protection against pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments (like seawater).

Austenitic Stainless Steel Grades

  1. 316 (S31600): The marine-grade standard
  2. 317 / 317L (S31703): Contains higher molybdenum (3–4%) for aggressive chemical environments involving pulping or acidic waste
  3. 316Ti (S31635): Titanium-stabilized version of 316. The titanium prevents intergranular corrosion during welding and high-temperature exposure (425°C–815°C)

Stabilized High-Temp Grades (321 / 347)

Used specifically when components must operate in the carbide precipitation range without losing corrosion resistance.

Stabilized Stainless Steel Grades

  1. 321 (S32100): Stabilized with Titanium. Commonly used for aircraft exhaust stacks and manifolds
  2. 347 (S34700): Stabilized with Columbium (Niobium). Preferred over 321 for high-temperature aqueous and pharmaceutical environments where knifeline corrosion is a risk

Advanced High-Performance (Nitronic 50 / 60)

Nitronic Grades

  1. Nitronic 50 (S20910): Offers double the yield strength of 316 and better corrosion resistance. It remains completely non-magnetic even after severe cold working
  2. Nitronic 60 (S21800): Specifically engineered for galling and wear resistance. It is the industry standard for bridge pins, valve stems, and fasteners where metal-on-metal friction occurs
